Why are NATO in Libya?

I mean seriously? If its a humanitarian effort, then why are scores of innocent civilians being killed and nothing is being done about it? It might seem easy to allow this to happen as "out of sight, out of mind" but one day it will backfire. "Live by the sword, die by the sword".
